Company Producing Artistic Director
Arranges venues for all rehearsals & performances
Selects plays with guidance & advice of Play reading Committee
Selects Director(s), crew chiefs, guest artists and Stage Managers.
Oversees all aspects of operations, ticket sales.
Works with Treasurer, keeps budget constraints
Ensures everyone stays within budget
Obtains all program information two weeks before opening night
Sends receipts & expenditures to Treasurer.
Makes final decision on anything affecting the image of company: (artwork, publicity).
Company Manager
Selects Crews with Artistic Director
Schedules production meetings, Sets rehearsal schedule,
Ensures that Cast is aware of and follows rules set by the Company for all productions.
Reports to Producer/Artistic Director on all aspects of production.
Selects Stage Manager(s) and crew with consent of Artistic Director
Helps obtain all program information two weeks before opening night.
Works closely with Artistic Director assisting in all company operations.
Head of Tech and Stage Production
Responsible as overseer to all aspects of sound, light, technical design, implementation and operation.
Reports to Artistic Director with Company Manager assisting in production operations and rigging. Observes safety aspects along with Stage Manager
Works with Crew Chiefs and all designers.
Director
Provides the vision for the show and to bring out the best possible performance of the script from the actors, Selects cast, Reports to the artistic director on all aspects of production.
Music Director
Works with Cast, musicians, singers, and choreographers. Attends all rehearsals.
Coordinates with Director.
Reports to Artistic Director and Company Manager.
Stage Manager
(During Rehearsals)
Reports to Director
Attends production meetings
Attends all rehearsals.
Plots cues in coordination with crew before rehearsals in theatre
Coordinates transporting, raising, striking & storing of set.
(During performances)
Reports to Producer/Artistic Director and Company Manger
Receives full responsibility for Cast & crew after final Dress rehearsal
Accepts full authority backstage.
Ensures that audience does not come on stage or backstage at any time
Decides on timing of curtain in coordination with Front of House manager
Assistant Stage Manager
Props Manager
Reports to Stage Manager
Attends all performances, rehearsals in the theatre & as many other rehearsals as possible to provide actual or substitute props as necessary
Makes prop list & coordinate all movements of hand props
Secures all hand props before first rehearsal in theatre & arrange for their safekeeping between performances. Sets up props table
Places props on stage & remove props from stage
Returns props to storage after last performance
Set Designer
Reports to Stage Manager, Artistic Director or Company Manager
Designs the set in conjunction with Director, Producer, Stage Manager & Set Construction Foreman
Prepares detail plan of the set before construction begins and prior to start of rehearsals
Resolves unforeseen difficulties at set raising in coordination with Company Manager and Stage Manager
Set Construction Chief
Reports to Company Manager and coordinates with Stage Manager
Schedules & organizes sessions and crews for building set
Procures materials needed to construct set
Coordinates storing of inventory after striking set
Set Builders & Painters
Reports to Set Construction Foreman
Build set in accordance with set design
Paints sets
Loads set for transporting
Raises & strikes set
Stores set after striking
Set Decorators
Reports to Stage Manager
Secures all furnishings & stage props as required by set design
Returns all furnishings & stage props after last performance
Costume Designer & Seamstress
Designs costumes and accessories for individual productions
Ensures the actors look as though they belong in the play they are performing, and insures that they are comfortable in what they are wearing.
Frugal, penny-pinching must work within budget constraints.
Works with the Company Manager and Director
Dresser
Reports to Stage Manager
Assists Cast with preparing for a performance
Sets costumes for changes as necessary
Make-up
Reports to Stage Manager
Schedules sequence in which Cast is made up
Lights
Reports to Head of Tech and Stage Production and Stage Manager.
Prepares lighting plot
Obtains & sets up necessary equipment prior to first rehearsal in theatre
Attends all performances, rehearsals in theatre & as many other rehearsals as possible to provide light as necessary
Returns all equipment after last performance
Sound
Reports to Head of Tech and Stage Production and Stage Manager.
Plots sound as required by Director
Obtains & set up necessary equipment prior to first rehearsal in theatre
Attends all performances, rehearsals in theatre & as many other rehearsals as possible to provide sound as necessary
Returns all equipment after last performance
Special Effects
Reports to Head of Tech and Stage Production and Stage Manager.
Determines how effects will be created as required by Director
Obtains & sets up necessary equipment prior to first rehearsal in theatre
Attend all performances, rehearsals in theatre & as many other rehearsals as possible to provide effects as necessary & returns all equipment after last performance.
Cast Members
Report to Stage Manager after final Dress rehearsal
Attend all rehearsals according to schedule
Attend all performances
Return all costumes & personal props to crew after last performance
Help strike set and unload.
Public Relations Officer
Writes, or arranges to be written, press releases to be sent to all print, radio and television media in the area.
Arranges all radio and television appearances of performers re: the promotion of the production.
Arranges for necessary advertising to be put into the print media.
Arranges for printing – flyers, posters, and brochures – distribution to cast and to the community.
Coordinates with other departments especially those doing fund raising.
Recruits assistants as needed
Alerts public of the play through whatever media is appropriate
Arrange all photography
Organizes assembly & printing of program based on information provided by Producer
Reports to Producer/Artistic Director
Ticket Takers(s)
Reports to Producer and FOH
Obtains tickets & cash box from Executive
Records & control distribution of tickets
Ensures that at least one ticket seller is available for each performance
Collect name, addresses and emails of people inquiring about the Company
Front of House Manager
Reports to Company Manager
Schedules & instruct ticket receivers, ushers & refreshment servers
Ensures that front of house is properly set e.g. displays.
Ensures front of house personnel wear appropriate attire
Returns stubs after each performance
Controls house i.e. latecomers, sickness, fire regulations
Informs audience of imminent start of play & acts
Coordinates closing of doors with Stage Manager.
