Carole approached Randy Matlow, Librarian at Ridgway Memorial Library if there could be a semi-permanent spot in the library which could be deemed “VABC Artists Spot”. He said the only place designated for us to hang paintings that are for sale and/or otherwise is on the art wall where we have been hanging.
The Shepherd’s Fest is scheduled for the coming weekend.
There will be a juried art show, called “A Brush with Bardstown” on the weekend of Oct 1-3, and it will feature plein air painting and a contest paying the Best in Show an award of $1,000. Any one interested can call 502 348 6488.
The Bullitt county courthouse is interested in hanging paintings in their building, but the issue is whether or not the building would be secure to ensure the safety of our paintings.
The next VABC meeting is scheduled for Sept. 29 and the painting contest theme will be “Animals and/or Birds”
Meeting was adjourned at 6:45 and Sharon Milliner proceeded to teach the group members a new technique she has been mastering by using masa paper and watercolors.
Refreshments and voting on paintings for “Artist of the Month” followed.
Theme for the month of August – “Open”
1st Place: Patsy Karr 2nd Place: Carole Powell 3rd Place: Gail Bagwell
Congratulations Winners!
Art Campaign in Banks
It appears our “Art is Awesome in Bullitt County” Campaign is working!
Tobee Taylor received a call from someone who had seen her portrait work at one of the banks and is going to have Tobee do a pencil portrait for her! Go Tobee! And, I sold a print of “Grampa’s Bible Stories” from the display at First Federal Savings Bank in Mt. Washington. If anyone else has had success please let us know!
Barn Quilts
We have 4 quilts completed and hung (I think) and the 5th one is being worked on right now. There are several more barn quilts in the pipeline to be painted.
LOUISVILLE GIFT SHOW – PAROQUET SPRINGS
This was a very good way to advertise and publicize one’s artwork and I am glad I participated in the show. I have some very good leads and did quite well with my prints and cards. More on this at the meeting coming up.
I apologize for the lateness and lack of information in this newsletter. I have been overwhelmed with garden, canning, freezing and commissioned artwor
Don’t forget to bring refreshments! See you soon, Carole.
